Maintenance: TCN Announces Six-hour Power Outage in Parts of Abuja

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a six-hour power outage in parts of Abuja on Tuesday as it carries out maintenance at its 132/33kV Kukwaba Transmission Substation.

The maintenance exercise is scheduled to take place from 10am to 4pm to enable TCN’s maintenance crew replace a faulty line circuit breaker on the 33kV L36 feeder connected to one of the substation’s 60MVA 132/33kV power transformers.

In a statement issued on Monday, TCN management said the exercise would affect electricity supply to several areas served through the substation.

The company said the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) would be unable to take off power for onward distribution to customers in Idu Railway Station, Idu Industrial Zone, CITEC Estate and parts of Lifecamp during the maintenance period.

Customers connected through the Wuye 1 and Wuye 2 Injection Substations will also be affected by the planned interruption.

TCN explained that the maintenance is required to replace the faulty circuit breaker and ensure the affected transmission equipment operates properly.

The company appealed for the understanding of electricity consumers in the affected areas, while apologising for the inconvenience the temporary outage may cause.

“TCN apologises for the inconvenience this outage will cause electricity consumers in the affected areas,” the statement said.

The maintenance is expected to end by 4pm, after which power supply to the affected areas can resume through the distribution network, subject to normal system conditions.
