Manchester United have completed the signing of 16-year-old midfielder David Eze from local rivals Manchester City.

The Premier League club confirmed the move on Saturday, welcoming the England youth international to its academy setup.

Eze developed through Manchester City’s academy before making the short move across the city to United. He represented City at youth level and has also earned caps for England.

Manchester United described the youngster as a central midfielder and wished him well as he begins the next stage of his development at the club.

The move comes after an eight-year spell in Manchester City’s youth system. Eze featured for the club at Under-15 and Under-16 levels before ending his time with the academy.

Reports indicate that Eze has agreed initial scholarship terms with United. He can sign a professional contract when he reaches the required age.

The teenager was born in Dublin and has Nigerian heritage. He later moved to Manchester, where he continued his education and football development.

His performances at youth level have attracted attention from several clubs. Reports said Arsenal also showed interest before Eze opted to continue his development at Old Trafford.

Eze’s arrival forms part of United’s recent recruitment drive among promising young players. The club has also brought in other teenage prospects as it strengthens its academy ranks.

His move across Manchester also mirrors the path taken by other young players who have switched between the two clubs in recent years.

For now, Eze will focus on his development within United’s academy as he works towards a professional career.
