Nigeria’s Flamingos have advanced to the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after defeating Mexico 2-1 in their Round of 16 clash in Morocco.
The Nigerian youngsters secured the victory on Thursday at Pitch 2 of the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Salé, near Rabat, to keep their title hopes alive.
Oluebube Umejiaku put Nigeria ahead in the 40th minute, giving the team a deserved advantage before the break.
The Flamingos maintained their momentum after the restart and extended their lead in the 71st minute through Dunstan.
Mexico later pulled one goal back and mounted a challenge for an equaliser. However, Nigeria held firm to protect their advantage and seal a place in the last eight.
The victory marks another significant step in Nigeria’s campaign as the team pursues its first U-17 Women’s World Cup title.
The Flamingos will now face Venezuela in the quarter-finals on November 1. They will seek another victory to secure a place in the semi-finals.
