The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a pastor and another suspect over the alleged theft of a Toyota Camry in Abuja.
The suspects, identified as Edwin Nwabueze and Sadiq Jamiu, were arrested during investigations into the reported theft of the vehicle at UTC Plaza in Garki.
Police said operatives arrested Nwabueze at his residence on October 27 after tracing him to the alleged offence.
The suspect reportedly identified himself as a pastor with Salvation Power Bible Ministry in North Bank, Benue State.
According to the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, Nwabueze hails from Oji River, Enugu State, but resides in Benue.
Adeh said Nwabueze later led police operatives to another location, where they arrested Jamiu, whom investigators identified as his alleged accomplice.
The command said preliminary findings had also linked Nwabueze to previous vehicle theft cases investigated by the Benue State Police Command.
Police alleged that the two suspects belonged to an interstate vehicle theft syndicate that steals and sells vehicles across different states.
The command said investigations were continuing to determine the full extent of the syndicate’s activities.
It also said detectives were working to identify and arrest other members of the group who remain at large.
The police said the suspects remained in custody and would face prosecution after investigators conclude their inquiries.
The command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
