The African School of Diplomacy and International Relations (ASDIR), in partnership with Rwanda Cooperation and Queen’s University, Belfast, has announced the African Peer-to-Peer Education Conference, Tour, and Award of Honourary Doctorate Degree in Kigali, Rwanda.

The event will take place from July 28 to 31, 2024, under the theme “Promoting the Spirit of Pan-Africanism through Education, Experiences, and Interactions.”

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Friday, ASDIR Vice Chairman and CEO, Professor Tunji John Asaolu, highlighted the conference’s mission to foster mutual understanding, cooperation, and knowledge exchange through peer-to-peer education.

“Our initiative underscores the pivotal role of diplomacy in cultivating unity, building bridges across diverse communities, and advancing shared goals for sustainable development within the African context,” said Asaolu.

According to him, the conference aligns with the African Union’s 2024 theme, “Educate and Skill Africa for the 21st Century,” emphasizing the importance of education as a transformative force for the continent’s development.

He added that the conference aims to facilitate knowledge exchange, offer insights into post-conflict reconciliation, and foster collaboration among participants.

“Our tour has three primary objectives. Firstly, to facilitate knowledge exchange by engaging participants in dynamic discussions and interactive dialogues on diplomatic practices and international relations within Africa.

“ Secondly, to offer a deeper understanding of post-conflict reconciliation through Rwanda’s remarkable journey, serving as a model for positive transformation. Lastly, to foster collaboration and networking among participants, creating a platform for impactful change and innovation in the fields of diplomacy and international relations,” he stated.

The CEO also said the tour is scheduled for 3 days from July 28th to 31st July, 2024 and English will be the primary language at the event.

“Accommodation and transportation arrangements will be provided, ensuring a seamless and enriching experience for all participants. English will be the primary language used, with translation services available if needed. Mental health support and counseling resources will also be accessible throughout the tour.”

Asaolu called on stakeholders, policymakers, educators, and advocates to join in harnessing education’s transformative potential for sustainable development in Africa. “Join us on this extraordinary journey to Kigali as we embrace the spirit of Pan-Africanism and strive towards a brighter future for Africa and beyond,” he said.

Founded in 2018, ASDIR is dedicated to academic excellence with a Pan-African orientation. The institution has trained over 1,000 students and collaborates with esteemed international universities. ASDIR’s mission is to raise Pan-African leaders equipped with the skills and knowledge to advance Africa’s position in global diplomacy.
