Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei Killed in US-Israel Strikes

Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, has reportedly been killed following coordinated military strikes carried out by Israel and the United States, according to a report by Reuters on Saturday.
The news agency cited a senior Israeli official as saying Khamenei died during attacks that targeted Iran’s top leadership. However, there was no immediate confirmation from Iranian authorities as of the time of filing this report.
The reported development follows large-scale strikes by the United States and Israel on key targets in Iran, a move that has further heightened tensions across the Middle East.
According to Reuters, U.S. President, Donald Trump, said the military operation was intended to neutralise what he described as a security threat to the United States and to give the Iranian people an opportunity to question their leadership.
Satellite images released after the strikes reportedly showed extensive damage and thick plumes of smoke rising from a compound in Tehran believed to be associated with Khamenei.
Khamenei, 86, became Iran’s highest authority in 1989 after the death of Ruhollah Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic. Over more than three decades in power, he oversaw the expansion of Iran’s political and military influence across the region.
Under his leadership, Iran supported allied groups in the Middle East, including Hamas and Hezbollah, a policy that drew sustained criticism from Israeli officials who viewed him as a destabilising force in the region.
As of press time, Iranian state media had not issued any official statement confirming or denying the report. The situation remains fluid amid fears of further escalation in an already volatile region.
