Tunji-Ojo Drags Activist to Court Over Alleged Cyberstalking

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has instituted legal action against a social activist, Emorioloye Owolemi, over alleged cyberstalking.
The case, filed before the Federal High Court sitting in Akure, Ondo State, centres on claims that the activist transmitted offensive and menacing messages about the minister on Facebook.
Owolemi is facing a two-count charge marked FHC/AK/3C/26. According to court documents, the alleged offence occurred on December 23, 2025, at Igbokoda in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The prosecution alleged that the defendant “knowingly and intentionally sent messages and/or other electronic communications through a computer system and/or network to the public via Facebook” against the minister, which were described as “grossly offensive, indecent, obscene, or menacing in character.”
The charge stated that the action contravened Section 24(1)(a) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, as amended in 2024.
In the second count, Owolemi was accused of cyberstalking by threat and harassment, an offence said to be contrary to Section 24(1)(b) of the same Act.
The court has fixed March 26 for hearing in the matter.
The development comes amid lingering controversy surrounding the minister’s academic and service records.
In February, Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja granted Owolemi’s application seeking to inquire into the academic qualifications of the minister, particularly the Secondary School Certificate allegedly issued by the West African Examinations Council.
However, in a separate ruling, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik declined a similar request by the activist regarding the minister’s discharge certificate said to have been issued by the National Youth Service Corps.
The judge held that the applicant did not sufficiently demonstrate that he was acting in the public interest, as required by law.
The latest suit marks a new twist in the protracted dispute between the minister and the activist, as the court prepares to hear arguments on the alleged cyberstalking charges later this month.
