ACOE Honours Ehindero as Lawmaker Pledges Partnership with Online Editors

The lawmaker representing Akoko North-East/North-West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Ifeoluwa Babajide Ehindero, has described the media as a critical partner in national development, pledging to work closely with members of the Association of Corporate Online Editors (ACOE).
Ehindero, who chairs the House Committee on Student Loans, Scholarships and Higher Education Financing, gave the assurance on Wednesday while receiving members of ACOE during a courtesy visit to his office at the National Assembly in Abuja.
The lawmaker commended the association for promoting professionalism and ethical standards in the online media space, noting that responsible journalism plays a vital role in strengthening democracy and informing citizens.
Welcoming the editors, Ehindero said the National Assembly under the leadership of Speaker Tajudeen Abbas had continued to provide opportunities for young lawmakers to contribute meaningfully to governance.
“Looking at the responsibilities we have as lawmakers, there is no way we can do this job successfully without partnering with the media,” he said.
He also acknowledged the role journalists played during his political journey, saying the support he received from the media at both state and national levels contributed significantly to his emergence as a member of the House of Representatives.
“I really appreciate the support I have gotten from the media space during my election and the build-up to the election. It has been wonderful,” he said.
The lawmaker further described ACOE as a noble organisation, noting that the association represents an important step in promoting innovation and professionalism among online editors.
“I see it as a very noble organisation. The name itself shows a kind of innovation… and the ethics and values that you uphold are highly commendable,” Ehindero added.
Highlighting some of his achievements in office, the lawmaker said more than 60 youths from his constituency had secured employment in various government agencies through his interventions.
He also disclosed that within his first 100 days in office, about six to seven primary healthcare centres in the constituency were renovated and equipped, while delivery support packages were provided for over 350 pregnant women.
According to him, further empowerment programmes are being planned in the coming months and the association would be carried along in the process to help project the impact of the initiatives.
Earlier, the Chairman of ACOE, Comrade Shola Akingboye, commended the lawmaker for his support for journalists and commitment to youth development.
Akingboye described Ehindero as a strong supporter of the media who has continued to create opportunities for young Nigerians through education and empowerment initiatives.
He said collaboration between lawmakers and the media would help amplify the impact of legislative activities and development programmes for the benefit of citizens.
The highlight of the visit was the presentation of the “Champion of Journalists Award” to Ehindero in recognition of his contributions to the welfare of journalists and his support for youth and women empowerment.
The lawmaker was also decorated with a symbolic muffler of the association as a mark of appreciation and solidarity from the online editors.
