APC Inaugurates 91-Member Media Subcommittee for Upcoming Convention

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has set up a 91-member Media and Publicity Subcommittee to coordinate communication and publicity activities ahead of the party’s national convention scheduled for March 27 and 28, 2026.
The subcommittee, chaired by Mai Mala Buni, will be responsible for managing media relations, publicity and information dissemination before, during and after the convention.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, inaugurated the committee in Abuja on Monday, describing the forthcoming convention as a significant milestone for the ruling party as it continues efforts to strengthen internal democracy and consolidate its political agenda.
Idris, who serves as co-chairman of the subcommittee, joined the inauguration virtually from London, where he is accompanying Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the president’s scheduled state visit to the United Kingdom from March 17 to 19.
Addressing members, the minister stressed that the responsibility placed on the committee was crucial, noting that the success of the convention would depend largely on how effectively its activities and outcomes are communicated to the public.
He urged members to approach the assignment with professionalism and creativity, explaining that their mandate extends beyond publicity to include ensuring accurate information dissemination, coordinating media engagement and documenting the convention’s activities.
“Nobody is going to get paid for it. We are all members of the APC and whatever we do is designed to ensure the success of the convention that is coming up in a few days from now,” Idris said.
He also outlined the committee’s key tasks to include content creation, media relations, media planning and buying, liaison with other subcommittees on publicity matters, report writing, documentation and media monitoring.
Also speaking, the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Media and Special Duties, Tunde Rahman, said members must work collectively to ensure proper planning and extensive coverage of the convention.
“Our job is cut out for us and it is to ensure effective coverage and proper organisation of the convention,” Rahman said.
He explained that the committee would develop a strategic communication plan, handle journalist accreditation and organise press briefings before and after the convention as part of efforts to ensure wide media coverage.
The APC national convention is expected to draw party leaders, delegates and stakeholders from across the country as the ruling party prepares for the next phase of its political activities.
