FRSC Deploys Tactical Team to AYA–Nyanya Corridor to Curb Recurrent Crashes

JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has deployed a high-level tactical team to the AYA–Nyanya Expressway in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) following a series of recent road traffic crashes along the busy corridor.

The initiative, announced on Wednesday by the FRSC’s Acting Corps Public Education Officer, Felicia Kalu, is part of the proactive measures directed by Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed to safeguard lives and prevent further accidents.

The tactical team, led by Assistant Corps Marshal for Operations, Olusegun Ogungbemide, has been tasked with conducting a thorough on-the-spot assessment to determine the factors behind the frequent crashes.

The team will recommend evidence-based remedial measures to ensure safer travel along the corridor.

“This decisive deployment demonstrates our commitment to intelligence-driven enforcement and proactive road safety management,” the statement read. “We are focused on protecting lives and property, not merely reacting to tragedies after they occur.”

The AYA–Nyanya corridor, a major gateway into Abuja, has long been prone to accidents due to high traffic volume and unsafe driving practices.

The FRSC’s intervention signals a zero-tolerance approach to preventable crashes and emphasizes the need for strategic attention on critical routes.

The deployment also coincides with ongoing Eid-el-Fitr Special Patrol operations aimed at ensuring smoother traffic flow and safer journeys for millions of Nigerians during the festive season.

By combining tactical investigation with intensified patrols, the Corps is adopting a dual strategy of enforcement and prevention.

Corps Marshal Mohammed has called on all road users; including drivers, commuters, and pedestrians to cooperate fully with the tactical team and strictly adhere to traffic regulations.

“Road safety is a shared responsibility,” the statement added. “We will continue to evolve innovative strategies, deploy resources effectively, and act swiftly to address emerging threats to public safety.”

The FRSC has reiterated that the new initiative will be closely monitored and adjusted in real time to address risks and prevent further crashes on one of the FCT’s busiest highways.
