2027: Tinubu Plans to Move Nigeria’s Capital to Lagos, Timi Frank Alleges

A former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Timi Frank, has claimed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is planning to relocate Nigeria’s capital from Abuja to Lagos if re-elected in 2027.

Frank made the allegation in a statement on Monday, where he criticised what he described as a “Lagos-focused agenda” under the current administration.

According to him, recent policy decisions and development efforts by the government appear to favour Lagos State, raising concerns about imbalance in national governance.

He argued that the trend suggests a broader plan to concentrate political and economic influence in the commercial hub.

“It is now clear that the President’s long-term plan is to concentrate political and economic power in Lagos if given another term in office,” Frank said.

The former APC spokesman also alleged that federal appointments and development initiatives have not been evenly distributed across the country, warning that such a pattern could weaken national unity.

“We do not want a president who is one-sided,” he said, questioning the absence of major initiatives targeting key sectors in other regions, including agriculture in the North, industrial growth in the South-East, and oil and gas development in the South-South.

Frank further claimed that the situation is creating a growing sense of division among Nigerians, which he described as troubling. He alleged that certain regions were being economically sidelined ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The former party official, who once served alongside Lai Mohammed, was part of internal party disagreements following the APC’s victory in the 2015 general elections.

At the time, he opposed the party’s preferred candidates for National Assembly leadership, backing the eventual emergence of Bukola Saraki and Yakubu Dogara instead.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from the Presidency regarding the allegations.
