Seven Injured as Building Under Construction Collapses in Abuja
JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

At least seven persons were injured on Friday after a two-storey building under construction collapsed in Jikwoyi, within the Abuja Municipal Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.
The incident, which occurred around 11 a.m., triggered an emergency response, with rescue teams working to ensure no one remained trapped beneath the debris.
According to a statement issued by the FCT Emergency Management Department and signed by its Head of Public Affairs, Nkechi Isa, about 17 workers were on the upper floor of the structure at the time of the collapse.
“Five of the workers sustained injuries, while a male worker at the ground level was initially trapped before being rescued,” the statement read.
The injured victims, according to the Management along with the rescued worker, were taken to the Sisters of Nativity Hospital in Jikwoyi, where they are currently receiving treatment and are said to be responding.

Rescue operations continued at the site as officials carried out excavation to ground level to confirm that no other persons were buried in the rubble.
Emergency responders at the scene included personnel from the National Emergency Management Agency, Department of Development Control, Engineering Department of the Federal Capital Development Authority, Civil Defence, Federal Fire Service and the FCT Police Command.
In a related development, FEMD said a fire outbreak destroyed part of a car sales and service centre along the Kubwa Expressway in Bwari Area Council.
The fire, which broke out around noon at the Car Earloha Chery Centre near Arab Junction, caused significant damage to a section of the building, destroying equipment and documents.
Head of FEMD’s Search and Rescue Team, Monday Adie, said no lives were lost in the incident.
Staff of the facility were said to have swiftly evacuated vehicles from the premises after initial attempts to contain the fire with extinguishers proved unsuccessful.
Authorities attributed the fire to an electrical fault, while firefighters and security agencies were deployed to contain the blaze and secure the area.
