Police Dismiss Security Rumours, Assure Tight Protection Ahead of JAMB Exams
JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has dismissed reports suggesting insecurity at some examination centres ahead of the forthcoming Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), assuring candidates and parents of robust security arrangements nationwide.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the police described the claims as unfounded, particularly those circulating about centres in a North Central state.
“The Nigeria Police Force is aware of recent unfounded rumours regarding the safety of certain centres for the forthcoming JAMB examination. These claims are without basis,” the statement said.
Despite dismissing the reports, the Force said it had taken proactive steps to address public concerns and ensure a secure environment for all candidates participating in the examination scheduled to commence on April 16, 2026.
According to the police, additional security personnel have been deployed across examination centres nationwide, both visibly and covertly, to forestall any potential threats.
“This includes routine patrols, perimeter checks, and the positioning of rapid response teams at strategic locations,” the statement added.
The Force also disclosed that it is working in close collaboration with other security agencies to monitor developments and respond swiftly to any emerging threats.
It warned that any attempt by individuals or groups to disrupt the examination process would be met with decisive action.
“Any individual or group attempting to disrupt the examination process will be swiftly identified and brought to justice,” the police said.
The NPF further reassured candidates, parents, and the general public that adequate measures have been put in place to guarantee a safe and conducive atmosphere for the conduct of the examination.
Candidates were advised to arrive early at their designated centres, comply with examination guidelines, and promptly report any suspicious activity to security personnel on ground.
The police also cautioned members of the public against spreading or relying on unverified information, urging them to depend only on official updates from relevant authorities.
“The public is advised to disregard unverified information circulating on social media and rely solely on official updates,” the statement noted.
Reaffirming its commitment, the Force said it would continue to ensure the safety of all national activities, including public examinations, while appreciating the cooperation of citizens and other stakeholders.
