Bayelsa Commissioner Dumps APC for NDC
JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

A serving Commissioner in Bayelsa State, Hon. Michael Magbisa, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and formally joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), in what marks a notable political shift in the state’s evolving political landscape.
Magbisa, who serves as Commissioner for Special Duties representing Bayelsa West, submitted his resignation in a letter dated April 2026 and addressed to the Chairman of APC, Sagbama Ward 10.
In his resignation letter, the commissioner described the decision as one taken after deep reflection, stressing that his exit was not borne out of convenience but conscience.
“This decision weighs heavily on me. It is not a departure made in comfort, but one borne out of deep reflection and an undeniable sense of loss,” he wrote.
He noted that his association with the APC went beyond membership, explaining that he had invested effort in building its structure at the grassroots.
“The party is not merely an association I belonged to; it is a structure I joined to build. But there comes a time when an individual must step back, guided by conscience and clarity of thought,” Magbisa stated.
He further expressed goodwill towards his former party, insisting that his departure was amicable.
“I part ways with the party with no ill will. Rather, I do so with a sincere hope that the All Progressives Congress will continue to find unity, strength, and direction in the days ahead,” he added.
Political developments around his resignation indicate that Magbisa has already aligned with the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), a relatively new political platform reportedly gaining traction in several parts of the country.
The party, associated with former Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, has been positioning itself as a reform-driven movement focused on accountability, institutional renewal and national reorientation.
The development adds to the quiet but steady political realignments in Bayelsa State, where shifting loyalties continue to shape preparations ahead of 2027 elections.
