Kaduna Court Adjourns El-Rufai Bail Hearing to June

A Kaduna State High Court has postponed hearing on the bail application of former governor, Nasir el-Rufai, pushing proceedings to the first week of June 2026.

The presiding judge, Darius Khobo, announced the adjournment on Tuesday, delaying a decision that had earlier been expected this week.

El-Rufai was brought to court under the watch of operatives from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission and the Department of State Services.

Following the court session, his counsel, Ukpon Akpan, criticised the repeated delays, alleging that the adjournments were influenced by political considerations.

The bail hearing had earlier been slated for ruling on April 21 after a previous adjournment on April 14.

El-Rufai was arraigned on April 13 by the ICPC on an amended nine-count charge bordering on alleged fraud and abuse of office. The anti-graft agency subsequently dropped one of the co-defendants, Amadu Sule, from the case.

In a separate matter before the Federal High Court in Kaduna, the former governor had earlier been granted bail in the sum of N200 million by Justice Rilwani Aikawa.

The former governor has been in ICPC custody since February 19, shortly after being released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. He was later granted temporary release on March 27 on compassionate grounds following the death of his mother.

Proceedings in the Kaduna High Court are expected to resume in June as the case continues.
