Tinubu Names 39-Year-Old Professor New JAMB Registrar

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the next Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), paving the way for one of the youngest academics to head the nation’s examination body.

The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement, Aina will officially assume office after the expiration of the second tenure of the current registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, on July 31, 2026.

At 39, Aina is set to become the youngest person to occupy the position of JAMB registrar.

The incoming registrar is a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University and is widely recognised for his contributions to digital systems, examination technology and public sector innovation.

The Presidency said Aina’s appointment reflects the administration’s drive to sustain reforms and deepen technology-driven improvements within the education sector.

Aina studied Computer Systems Engineering at the University of Kent before obtaining a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security.

He later earned a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University.

The statement noted that his relationship with JAMB dates back to his National Youth Service year, after which he became involved in several ICT and examination integrity projects linked to examination bodies including the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB).

Over the past 15 years, Aina has reportedly built extensive experience in ICT-driven reforms and digital transformation initiatives within public institutions.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that the incoming registrar would consolidate on the reforms introduced under Oloyede’s leadership while further strengthening the operational and technological capacity of the examination board.

Observers in the education sector say the appointment signals a growing shift towards younger technocrats with expertise in digital innovation and institutional reform.
