Suspected assassins have beheaded a female nursing student, identified as Wendy Achumba, in Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State, in a brutal attack that has thrown the College of Nursing, Umulogho, into mourning.

The victim, who was said to have completed her midwifery training and was undergoing post-basic studies, was reportedly found dead in her private off-campus apartment on Thursday under unclear circumstances.

Achumba, an indigene of Isiala Ngwa in Abia State, was discovered lifeless in what residents described as a shocking and violent incident, the details of which remain sketchy at the time of filing this report.

Confirming the incident on Friday, the Imo State Police Command said it had commenced a full-scale investigation into the killing and was working to track down those responsible.

The Command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye, said operatives were immediately deployed to the scene following a distress report, adding that the victim’s body had been evacuated and deposited in a morgue for preservation and autopsy.

Okoye said, “The Command is aware of the tragic incident involving the death of a female student of the College of Nursing, Umulogho, whose body was discovered in her private off-campus apartment.”

He added that preliminary investigations had begun, noting that the police were exploring all possible leads to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing.

According to him, one suspect has already been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently assisting investigators with information.

“Consequently, the Command appeals to students and members of the public to remain calm, assuring that the situation is under control and that every effort is being made to ensure those behind the act are brought to justice,” Okoye said.

Meanwhile, tension has reportedly risen within the school community following the killing, as students and residents call for improved security around off-campus accommodations.

Security operatives say surveillance and intelligence efforts have been intensified in the area to prevent further breakdown of law and order as investigations continue.
