The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, August 25, 2026, a public holiday to mark this year’s Eid ul Mawlid, commemorating the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

The declaration was contained in a statement signed on Friday by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Dr Magdalene Ajani, on behalf of the Federal Government.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and across the diaspora on the occasion, urging Nigerians to draw lessons from the life and teachings of the Prophet.

“Every Eid ul Mawlid gives us reason to pause and draw lessons from a life defined by compassion, humility and service to others,” the minister said.

He encouraged Nigerians, irrespective of religious affiliation, to reflect on the values associated with the celebration, saying they were particularly important to the country at this time.

“These are qualities our nation needs now more than ever, and I encourage every Nigerian, not just our Muslim brothers and sisters, to reflect on them,” Tunji-Ojo said.

The minister also urged Muslims to use the occasion to pray for peace, unity and cohesion across the country, stressing that maintaining national unity was a collective responsibility.

He called on citizens to celebrate responsibly and with mutual respect, while wishing the Muslim community a joyous and peaceful Eid ul Mawlid.

Tunji-Ojo reaffirmed the commitment of the President Bola Tinubu administration to protecting lives and property and maintaining peace across the country.

The Federal Government urged Nigerians to use the public holiday to reflect on the values of compassion, humility, service and peaceful coexistence, while celebrating the occasion responsibly.
