TCN Faults Kaduna Electric Over Jos Power Supply Claim

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has dismissed a claim by Kaduna Electric that transmission constraints were responsible for power supply challenges in Jos and its environs, describing the statement as a misrepresentation of facts.

In a statement signed by its management yesterday, TCN said all 330kV transmission lines connected to Jos were operational and transmitting bulk electricity.

The company was reacting to a statement issued by Kaduna Electric on August 26, alleging transmission constraints affecting electricity supply to Jos and surrounding areas.

TCN said the claim was “false and a deliberate misrepresentation of facts,” insisting that there had been no disruption of bulk electricity transmission on any 330kV line supplying Jos since August 24.

According to the transmission company, the only incident recorded recently occurred at 3:30 a.m. on August 23, when the Jos-Lafia 330kV Line 2 circuit breaker was opened for voltage control.

It explained that the action was routine and undertaken to maintain stability on the national grid, rather than being caused by a fault or breakdown on the transmission network.

TCN said the line was restored at 11:59 a.m. on August 24 and had remained in service since then.

“For the avoidance of doubt, all 330kV transmission lines connected to Jos are in service and transmitting bulk power,” the company said.

The company urged Kaduna Electric and other stakeholders to verify information with TCN before making public statements on transmission-related issues, warning that inaccurate claims could mislead electricity consumers and create unnecessary anxiety.

TCN also appealed to electricity customers in Jos and its environs to disregard what it described as misleading information, assuring them of its commitment to maintaining reliable bulk power transmission across the country.

It said it would continue to work with distribution companies to ensure stable and reliable electricity delivery to consumers nationwide.

The development comes amid persistent concerns over electricity supply across parts of the country, with TCN maintaining that clear communication and verification among operators remain essential to addressing disruptions within the power sector.
