Police Rearrest Ex-Convicts Over Child Trafficking, Rescue 4-Year-Old

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has rearrested two ex-convicts, Rose Daniel and Blessing John, over their alleged involvement in child abduction and trafficking, rescuing a four-year-old girl in Kuje Area Council.

The suspects were apprehended on August 27, 2026, while allegedly trying to flee with the child, identified as Ummi Mariam Abdullah.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the FCT, SP Josephine Adeh, said the arrest followed a tip-off from a resident who reportedly witnessed the incident and alerted the Police.

According to her, operatives responded immediately, intercepted the suspects and rescued the girl at the scene.

Police investigations subsequently revealed that Daniel and John were no strangers to law enforcement, having been arrested in December 2025 and prosecuted over a similar offence.

The two were convicted and reportedly spent about five months in prison before being released on bail.

The Command said further investigations showed that the suspects allegedly returned to the crime after their release, with at least four children reportedly abducted and trafficked to different parts of the country.

In the latest cases under investigation, two of the children were allegedly taken to a suspected accomplice in Port Harcourt, identified as Madam Ijeoma, who reportedly bought each child for N1.5 million.

The four-year-old rescued during the latest operation has since been reunited with her family.

Meanwhile, Daniel and John remain in Police custody as detectives continue investigations into their alleged activities and the identities of other persons connected to the trafficking network.

The Command said the suspects would be prosecuted after the conclusion of investigations.

The FCT Police also advised parents and guardians to remain vigilant and closely monitor the whereabouts of their children, while urging residents to report suspicious persons, movements and activities to the nearest Police station or through its emergency channels.
