FG Assures Safe Resumption as Unity Colleges Reopen Monday

The Federal Government has assured parents and students of enhanced security as all Federal Unity Colleges across the country reopen for academic activities on Monday, September 14, 2026.

The Federal Ministry of Education, in a statement issued on Friday by its Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, reaffirmed that the scheduled resumption date remained unchanged.

The ministry said security agencies had been duly informed of the reopening and were expected to maintain heightened vigilance around the colleges and their surrounding communities.

Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, said the safety and wellbeing of students remained a priority of the government, urging parents and guardians to remain calm and rely on official information.

“The safety and wellbeing of our students remain a top priority,” Alausa said, assuring families that the government was taking necessary steps to provide a secure environment for learning.

He also called on school authorities to work closely with security agencies and other relevant stakeholders as students return to their campuses.

“Parents and guardians are encouraged to remain calm and rely on official information from the Ministry and their respective schools,” the minister said.

According to the ministry, principals and other school authorities are expected to coordinate with security agencies to ensure a smooth and safe reopening.

It said the responsibility for maintaining a secure learning environment was shared among government agencies, school management, parents, students and the wider communities hosting the colleges.

The ministry added that it was monitoring developments across the country and would continue to work with relevant authorities to address any emerging security concerns.

Parents were consequently advised to cooperate with school management and security personnel during the resumption process and avoid relying on unverified reports that could create unnecessary fear.

The Federal Government maintained that the reopening was in line with its commitment to sustaining academic activities in the Federal Unity Colleges while giving adequate attention to the safety of students and staff.

The Federal Unity Colleges were established to provide quality education while promoting national integration by bringing together students from different parts of the country.

The ministry therefore urged principals, teachers, parents and students to play their respective roles in ensuring a smooth and orderly return to school.

With the Monday resumption date unchanged, the government said it would continue to assess the security situation and take appropriate measures to protect students and staff across the Unity College system.

It expressed confidence that the cooperation of stakeholders and the support of security agencies would facilitate a peaceful resumption of academic activities.

Parents were also advised to follow directives issued by their respective colleges and the Federal Ministry of Education, particularly those relating to security and arrangements for the reopening.

The government reiterated that the welfare of students and staff would remain central to its decisions concerning the Federal Unity Colleges.
