The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has honoured retired Deputy Superintendent of Traffic, Anifa Bello Abiodun, for her outstanding service to the Nigeria Police Force.
Disu presented her with the IGP’s Award of Recognition and cash support during a ceremony at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, yesterday.
The IGP commended Abiodun for her professionalism, discipline and resilience during her years of service with the Ogun State Police Command, particularly in Abeokuta.
Abiodun earned public goodwill through her commitment to traffic management and consistent service to road users and residents in the communities where she worked.
Disu said the public tends to appreciate the police when officers carry out their responsibilities professionally and responsibly.
He added that public dissatisfaction often arises from the misconduct of individual officers rather than the institution itself.
The IGP said Abiodun’s recognition reflected the respect she earned from the community through her conduct and dedication to duty.
He stressed that the police must hold personnel accountable for misconduct while also recognising officers who demonstrate integrity and professionalism.
According to him, rewarding exemplary service will encourage other personnel to uphold the standards expected of members of the Force.
The Nigeria Police Force said it would continue to promote accountability and recognise personnel whose dedication contributes to effective policing and stronger public confidence.
