A groom, Abubakar Abdullahi, reportedly died on his way to his wedding ceremony in Balanga Local Government Area of Gombe State.
Abdullahi was travelling from Gombe to Balanga on the day of his wedding Fatiha when tragedy struck.
The groom had reportedly spoken with his bride-to-be, Fauziya, by telephone during the journey. He assured her that he was on his way to the venue.
However, the anticipated wedding ceremony never took place as news of Abdullahi’s death reached the venue.
Family members, friends and well-wishers had gathered for the marriage ceremony when they received the shocking news.
The incident turned what should have been a joyful celebration into a day of mourning for the two families.
Nigerian Islamic commentator and writer Ahmad Usman Elnafaty confirmed the death in a Facebook post accompanied by a photograph of Abdullahi.
Elnafaty expressed shock that the groom died while travelling to a ceremony where his family and guests were waiting for him.
“People are sitting waiting for him to finish in Taura only to be called and told that he died on the road! To Allah we belong and to Him shall we return!” he wrote.
He described the incident as a painful reminder of the uncertainty of life, urging people to reflect on the circumstances surrounding the groom’s death.
“Every day we see life lessons but we never take it! People, we should be careful of God!” Elnafaty said.
He also recalled sermons by Dr Muhammad Kabir Haruna and Sheikh Haifan on sudden deaths, saying the incident had revived memories of similar tragedies.
According to him, Abdullahi was later buried after prayers in Gombe, leaving his parents and other relatives to mourn the loss.
“He was prayed in Gombe and taken to a graveyard, leaving his parents with whom he will marry in sorrow,” he wrote.
Elnafaty prayed for Allah’s forgiveness and mercy for the deceased while asking people to remember him in their prayers.
The circumstances surrounding Abdullahi’s death were not immediately clear as of the time of filing this report.
