The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will on Tuesday hold a World Press Conference and National Stakeholders’ Meeting in Abuja as the countdown to the 2027 general elections reaches 100 days.
The commission will use the occasion to brief Nigerians and key stakeholders on its preparations for the elections, including the voters’ register, candidate nominations and logistics.
The Chief Press Secretary/Media Adviser to the INEC Chairman, Adedayo Oketola, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday.
The event will be addressed by the INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, alongside other stakeholders involved in the electoral process.
According to the commission, the briefing will also focus on critical measures being taken to safeguard the integrity of the elections.
INEC said the national stakeholders’ meeting would bring together political party leaders, security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), members of the diplomatic corps and development partners.
Civil society organisations, election observer groups, disability rights advocates, religious and traditional leaders, youth organisations and media executives will also participate in the meeting.
The commission said the engagement forms part of its commitment to transparency, public communication and consultation with key actors as preparations for the elections gather pace.
The World Press Conference and stakeholders’ meeting will hold at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre (BAT-ICC), Abuja, from 10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 6.
Attendance is strictly by invitation, while accredited media representatives and invited guests must present their invitation cards or accreditation badges at security checkpoints.
INEC said Nigerians who cannot attend the event physically would be able to follow the proceedings through live broadcasts on major national television networks.
The commission will also stream the event on its official social media platforms.
The meeting comes at a crucial stage in the preparations for the 2027 elections, with the commission expected to provide updates on several key aspects of the electoral process.
