Several communities in Abuja and Niger State will experience a six-hour power disruption on Saturday as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) carries out planned maintenance at the Katampe Transmission Substation.

The maintenance is scheduled for October 31, 2026, between 9am and 4pm and will involve TCN’s 150MVA power transformer 2 and associated switchgear at the 330/132/33kV substation.

TCN announced the planned exercise in a notice issued by its management, saying the work was necessary to maintain its transmission infrastructure.

As a result, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) will be unable to off-take electricity for onward supply to customers in the affected communities during the maintenance period.

The areas listed by TCN include Kubwa PW, Dutse Makaranta, Ushafa, Jere, Jiwa, parts of Suleja, Kaduna Road, Sabon Wuse, Dikko, Zuba, Madalla, Dakwa and Tugan Maje.

The company said the disruption would last for six hours, although the maintenance window runs from 9am to 4pm.

TCN apologised to electricity customers in the affected areas for the inconvenience that may result from the exercise.

The maintenance is expected to restore the equipment’s operational condition and support the reliability of electricity transmission through the Katampe substation.
