Nigerian gospel singer and pastor Nathaniel Bassey has crossed one billion YouTube views, becoming the first African gospel artist to reach the milestone.
His official YouTube channel, Nathaniel Bassey Main, had recorded more than 1.014 billion views and 5.24 million subscribers as of the time of filing this report.
The channel, which Bassey launched in 2011, has built a large global audience through his music, worship sessions and prayer broadcasts.
The milestone coincides with the October 2026 edition of the Hallelujah Challenge, the online worship programme founded by Bassey in 2017.
The monthly programme brings participants together for midnight sessions of praise, worship and prayer.
What started as an online worship gathering has since grown into an international Christian movement. Thousands join its live sessions, while millions watch recorded editions.
He has also built a strong following through songs including Imela, Onise Iyanu, Olowogbogboro and You Are God.
His music has helped extend his reach beyond Nigeria, particularly among gospel audiences across Africa and other parts of the world.
The one-billion-view mark has sparked celebrations among his followers, with some calling for him to explore ways of monetising the huge audience around his online ministry.
Bassey, however, has consistently maintained that the Hallelujah Challenge centres on worship and spiritual devotion rather than revenue.
The latest milestone further highlights the growing reach of African gospel music through digital platforms.
