Tinubu should address Nigerians in person on CSU saga, Obi demands.
Peter Obi, Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in this year’s general elections, has insisted that President Bola Tinubu owes Nigerians the moral duty to “personally” clarify the circumstances around his Chicago State University (CSU) credentials.
He said that any leader, who chooses to serve the country, must earn public trust and obey the rule of law, as enshrined in the nation’s Constitution.
Yesterday, the former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, made the demand shortly after paying tribute to the late former Minister of Internal Affairs during the Second Republic, Alhaji Bello Yusuf Maitama in Kano.
He told reporters: “I am here in Kano to condole with the family of the late Bello Yusuf Maitama, who was a very respected son of Kano that served the country meritoriously as Minister of Internal Affairs. We pray that Allah forgives his sins and grants him eternal rest.”
Reacting to the raging CSU saga, Obi maintained that a country must be built on the strength of character, integrity and trust on its leaders.
Stating that obeying the rule of law requires leaders to come clean and clarify any dispute bordering on their integrity, the ex-presidential flag-bearer added: “For me, what is important is that leaders must earn public trust, and if you choose to serve the public, you must always avail yourself to explain to the public where issue of dispute arise, and you must do so personally. You can’t outsource it. Because it is about you, it is you that people voted for.”
While addressing journalists in Abuja, he recently challenged Tinubu to reintroduce himself to the nation for avoidance of further doubt.
Obi claimed that the controversy around the President had prompted uninformed outsiders to view every Nigerian as a potential fraudster, forger or identity thief, adding that the development is unnecessary.
