Atiku reveals plans for 2027 presidency

Barring last minute changes, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, will run for the position of Nigeria’s president in 2027.

Atiku disclosed this on Wednesday through Daniel Bwala, spokesperson for the Presidential Campaign Organisation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023.

Bwala declared that despite previous unsuccessful attempts at Nigeria’s top job, Atiku would “surely contest” again for presidency in the subsequent general elections.

“Sure, he [Atiku] would run,” Bwala told ChannelsTV.

“He has the capacity, he has the wisdom, he has the knowledge, he has the energy. And he is a president we never had. Because to be honest with you, if any politician understands the private sector very well, it is Atiku Abubakar and our economy can only come alive if there is a private sector-led economy.”

Atiku Abubakar has contested unsuccessfully for President of Nigeria six times, in 1993, 2007, 2011, 2015, 2019, and 2023.

Political analysts have also blamed the current crisis within the PDP on Atiku’s presidential ambition.
