Black Sunday in Ekiti as three church members die in auto crash
Tragedy struck in Ise-Ekiti, Ekiti State, on Sunday when three persons lost their lives in a road crash, while others sustained various degrees of injuries.
It was gathered that the accident occurred at Afolu after Ise-Ekiti, involving the bus that belonged to St. Mark’s Anglican Church, Ise-Ekiti.
The occupants of the bus, mostly women, were said to be on their way to Ado-Ekiti to participate in an annual enrollment service.
Eyewitness accounts have it that the accident occurred when one of the bus tyres busted, resulting in the driver losing control of the vehicle and ramming into a bikeman to hit a mango tree at the roadside, where the 18-passenger bus somersaulted.
Three of the women were said to have died on the spot; among them is an evangelist who just got married a few weeks ago and also the wife of former Ise/Orun local government, Hon Adegbola, while others who sustained injuries were rushed to the hospital where they are currently receiving treatment.
The Anglican Bishop of Ekiti, Rt. Rev. Andrew Olusola Ajayi, in his reaction, commiserated with the families of those who lost their lives and St. Mark’s Anglican Church, Ise Ekiti, and prayed that God would heal those injured.
Speaking with newsmen, the Chairman of Ise Local Government, Hon. Bamikole Ayodele, mourned and expressed his heartfelt condolences to the Vicar of the church, Ven. E.T. Babalola, and the entire members of the church. (Vanguard)
