LAWMA seals market over poor sanitation

The Lagos Waste Management Authority, on Thursday, sealed Ire-Akari Market in the Isolo area of Lagos over poor sanitation.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s Senior Special Assistant on New Media, Jubril Gawat, disclosed this on X via @Mr_JAGs, saying, “Enforcement team today sealed Ire-Akari market, Isolo, for poor environmental sanitation and the use of cart pushers in violation of the state’s environmental laws.”
Also, the spokesperson for the state ministry of environment, Kunle Adeshina, in a post on X, revealed that the ministry alongside the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, removed structures around Aguda Market in the Coker Aguda Local Council Development Area.
Sharing photos on his handle, @kunle_adeshina, on Thursday, he said, “Operatives of Monitoring Enforcement and Compliance dept from MOE&WR, in a joint operation on Thursday with LAGESC/KAI officials, removed all the illegal structures erected on the road beside Aguda Market Complex in Coker Aguda LCDA and the drainage channel behind the market.”
In late January, LAWMA sealed Oke-Afa Market in Isolo, and Katangua Market in Abule Egba, for violating waste disposal regulation.
The Director, Public Affairs, LAWMA, Folashade Kadiri, said the closure of the markets became expedient to curb environmental health concerns.
