VAN Condemns Federal Interference, Calls For Peaceful Council Election in Osun
JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

The Victory Advocates of Nigeria (VAN) has issued a stern warning against any attempts to manipulate the democratic process in Osun State, insisting that neither the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Lateef Fagbemi, nor the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has the moral or legal right to determine the fate of Osun people.
In an emergency meeting held in Osogbo, the Capital City of Osun, VAN State Coordinator, Mrs. Dorcas Anuoluwapo, alongside other executive members, expressed deep concern over the escalating political unrest in the state. The group blamed the All Progressives Congress (APC) for orchestrating tension and inciting violence in a desperate bid to cling to relevance.
“Osun people have spoken loudly by rejecting APC’s oppressive rule, and we will fiercely resist any attempt to destabilise our state,” declared Ms. Basirat Ajibola, VAN’s State Woman Leader. She further stressed that the spontaneous celebrations across local government secretariats signified the people’s readiness to break free from APC’s shackles permanently.

Lending his voice to the call for resistance, Hon. Abioye Benjamin Obafemi mocked APC’s frustrations, stating: “Rejection is painful, but the enemies of progress should either accept their fate or seek exile elsewhere. Governor Ademola Adeleke is providing purposeful leadership, and we stand resolutely behind him. As the saying goes, ‘A warrior’s strength is not in his sword, but in his spirit.’ In the face of battle, true strength is revealed.”
Echoing similar sentiments, Comrade Musefiu Afeez ridiculed APC’s predicament, noting: “They are smiling outside but dying inside. The people have moved on, and no amount of manipulation can reverse the course of history.” He urged the electorate to stand firm and ensure their votes reflect their true desires.
However, VAN’s strongest rebuke was reserved for AGF Lateef Fagbemi and IGP Kayode Egbetokun, whom they accused of outright bias and complicity in APC’s schemes. VAN National President, Prince Seyi Ajibola, lambasted both officials for failing to uphold justice, declaring:
“Fagbemi cannot be trusted to act fairly, his past legal representation of Oyetola and his current political alignment make him unfit to mediate in Osun’s affairs. As for Egbetokun, his silence in the face of APC’s antics raises serious questions about his impartiality. If they truly desire peace, they must respect the judicial pronouncements of the Ilesa High Court and cease all acts of interference.”
VAN reaffirms that the people of Osun alone will determine their political future, not Abuja-based power brokers attempting to impose their will on a free and democratic state. The group warns that any attempts to subvert the people’s mandate will be met with unyielding resistance.
The winds of change have come, and no force can turn them back. Osun belongs to its people, and their will must prevail!
