Ex-ADC National Women Leader Returns to APC

JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has welcomed back the former National Women Leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kayauta Yakubu, in what party leaders described as a major political boost.

Yakubu formally rejoined the ruling party at a reception held at the APC national headquarters in Abuja. The event drew party officials and supporters, especially from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), where she hails from.

Speaking at the ceremony, Yakubu said her decision to return to the APC was based on her assessment of the party’s performance in government, particularly in the areas of security and infrastructure.

“I decided today to join APC simply because I have seen the governance of APC,” she said. “I have seen the progress that the APC administration is doing in the country, more especially in the security aspects and development.”

She described her return as a homecoming, explaining that she was among those who were part of the party during its early formation before leaving for another political platform.

“APC is not a new party to me. I have been in APC before. We did the merger. But later on, I changed my party..But today, simply because of the administration’s progress, I have decided to come back home. I was a lost daughter. But now, I am found,” Yakubu said.

Yakubu said her decision was personal and not influenced by pressure from any group. She added that she intends to use her experience to contribute to national development and serve her community in the FCT.

Receiving her on behalf of the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, the party’s National Women Leader, Dr. Mary Alile Idele, described the defection as a significant gain.

She said the APC remains open to new members and continues to grow across the country. Idele also pointed to some policies of the current administration, including the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which provides loans to students.

“There’s been a lot of empowerment. There’s been a lot of development, infrastructure development, even things that we have not seen before. NELFUND, students are getting loans to go to school. And this loan, it’s not only APC people. Now everybody from Nigeria,” Idele said.

The Chairman of APC in Kuje Area Council, Danladi Ibrahim, also welcomed Yakubu, recalling her earlier role in the party. He said her return would strengthen the party’s structure at the grassroots, especially as local government elections approach.

“As our local government election is nearby, we are also here to see how you can perform. We know your capacity. You can galvanize people to vote for APC,” Ibrahim said.

Yakubu arrived at the event with a number of supporters, a move party leaders said would further strengthen their presence in the FCT. She has completed her re-registration at the ward, unit and local government levels, signaling her full reintegration into the APC.

Party officials expressed confidence that she would immediately begin mobilising women and other voters, describing her return as timely and strategic.
