Tanko Sylvanus Promises Improved Healthcare Services, Others if Elected AMAC Chairman
JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

A chairmanship aspirant for the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Tanko Sylvanus, has pledged to prioritize healthcare services if elected.
Speaking to newsmen on Wednesday, shortly after submitting his Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms at the party’s National Secretariat, Sylvanus expressed deep concern over the current state of healthcare facilities in the FCT.
He added that the welfare of the healthcare workers will be prioritized under his watch.
“A number of our healthcare staff are on strike and that is not proper because health is wealth. Some of our health care centers are in dilapidated condition. If given the opportunity to lead AMAC, I will see that as my priority to work on because without health none of us will be here today.
“Under our watch, these centers will not only be renovated, we will adequately equip them to function effectively,” Sylvanus promised.
He also highlighted the pressing issue of education, noting that many children are currently out of school due to ongoing teacher strikes.
“My objective is to bring hope and make AMAC great again. Today a lot of children are out of school, this is unacceptable. I will focus on education because without education, we cannot be where we are today,” he said passionately.
He attributed some of the challenges in education to a disconnect between certain council chairmen and the FCT administration, criticizing their lack of effort in generating funds to support local governance.
“AMAC and the FCT are involved in the payment of salaries of teachers. The FCT is supposed to support the Area Councils in paying the teachers. I am also aware that there are some Area Councils that have failed to do what they are supposed to do to ensure that the salary of teachers is promptly paid. I will keep a good working relationship with the FCT Minister to ensure the prompt payment of the salary of teachers,” he assured.
In addition to healthcare and education, Sylvanus emphasized the importance of human capital development. “Another key area is in the human capital development of our people. They have been deprived of knowledge for so long. I will focus on human capital development, skills acquisition, youth and women empowerment as well,” he stated.
Sylvanus also addressed the critical issue of food security, acknowledging that agriculture has been neglected in the FCT. “Agriculture would be boosted to increase food security. We have looked away from agriculture and this has affected food security in the FCT. Today instead of being able to feed ourselves, we now rely on other states to meet our food security,” he lamented.
To ensure transparency and accountability in governance, Sylvanus proposed regular town hall meetings to keep the community informed about government policies and initiatives.
“I will ensure establishment of feedback and accountability to the people with regular town hall meetings which will make it possible for the people to know what the government is doing and also for us to know what and how the people are feeling,” he explained.
Additionally, he expressed his intention to educate communities on waste management and provide the necessary training and equipment for effective waste disposal.
