NiMet Secures Approval for Revised Conditions of Service

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has completed a comprehensive review of its Conditions of Service, a move aimed at strengthening staff welfare, professionalism and institutional efficiency in line with contemporary public service standards.

The Director of Human Resource Management and Administration at NiMet, Dr. Nasiru Sani, disclosed this while speaking on the outcome of the review process, describing it as a major milestone in the agency’s ongoing human capital reforms.

According to Sani, the review was driven by close collaboration between NiMet management and the recognised staff unions, with both sides engaging in sustained dialogue and extensive consultations to address key issues affecting staff welfare and career development.

He noted that the revised Conditions of Service were designed to support the agency’s evolving operational mandate while reinforcing its core responsibility of delivering timely and accurate weather and climate services.

Sani explained that the process received the backing of the current administration and was diligently advanced through the appropriate approval channels.

“With the backing of the current administration, the review was diligently advanced through the appropriate channels and has now received the necessary approvals from relevant oversight authorities,” he said.

He added that the updated framework has been cleared by the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF), and other statutory bodies, formally validating its implementation for NiMet staff.

According to him, the revised Conditions of Service introduce clearer guidelines on appointments, promotions, career progression and disciplinary procedures, while also improving provisions on staff welfare, leave entitlements and work–life balance.

Sani said the new framework also standardises procedures to promote fairness, transparency and accountability, and aligns fully with Federal Civil Service rules and best practices.

He expressed optimism that the updated Conditions of Service would enhance staff motivation and morale, leading to improved productivity and more efficient service delivery across the agency.

The director urged staff to familiarise themselves with the revised document, noting that it serves as a comprehensive guide to their rights, responsibilities and career development within NiMet.

He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to continuous institutional reforms aimed at promoting efficiency, staff welfare and excellence in service delivery, in line with NiMet’s broader mission of supporting national development and safety through reliable and timely meteorological services.
