FRSC Disowns Misleading Report on Sector Commander Posting

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has issued a correction to a misleading report circulating on social media concerning a recent posting within the Corps, clarifying the identity of the newly appointed Sector Commander.

In a statement signed on Monday by the Assistant Corps Marshal and Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, the FRSC said the report contained inaccurate information that could mislead the public and undermine confidence in official communications of the Corps.

The FRSC explained that the officer duly appointed as Sector Commander is Corps Commander A. S. Ogungbemi, contrary to impressions created by the viral report. It, however, stressed that the photograph accompanying the report does not belong to the newly posted Sector Commander.

According to the Corps, the image being circulated is that of another senior officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, who currently serves as the Corps Public Education Officer. The FRSC described the use of the photograph in the context of the posting as incorrect and misleading.

The Corps said the misrepresentation highlights the growing challenge of misinformation on social media platforms, particularly when reports are published without proper verification from authoritative sources.

FRSC urged members of the public and media practitioners to disregard the false narrative and to rely solely on information released through official communication channels of the Corps.

It emphasised the importance of responsible reporting and information sharing, noting that inaccurate reports can create confusion and erode public trust in institutions.

The Corps reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, professionalism and the dissemination of accurate public information, while calling for greater diligence in verifying facts before publication or circulation.

FRSC assured Nigerians that all postings and administrative decisions within the Corps are communicated through established and verifiable channels, adding that it remains focused on its mandate of promoting road safety and protecting lives on Nigerian roads.
