Tinubu Removes Egbetokun as IGP, Disu to Take Over

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has removed Kayode Egbetokun as Inspector-General of Police.
Sources within the Presidency and senior officials of the Police Service Commission confirmed on Tuesday that Egbetokun was directed to prepare his handover notes following a visit to the Presidential Villa.
He is expected to formally hand over to Tunji Disu, who until now has been serving as the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos.
A senior police source disclosed that Egbetokun was informed of the decision during a meeting at the Villa.
“He was told to go and prepare his handover notes. I believe he has done that already and will be handing over to Tunji Disu,” the source said.
There was no official statement from the Presidency or the Police Service Commission as of the time of filing this report.
Before his expected appointment as IGP, Disu headed the FCID Annex in Lagos. Prior to that deployment, he served as Commissioner of Police in the Federal Capital Territory in 2024 and in Rivers State in 2023. Before becoming a CP, he worked closely with Egbetokun as his Principal Staff Officer.
Disu also previously led the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja and the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos, positions that placed him at the forefront of major crime-fighting operations.
Born on April 13, 1966, in Lagos State, Disu is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police. He attended Lagos State University in 1990, where he earned a degree in English Education.
In 2000, he obtained a diploma in International Relations and Strategic Studies from the same institution. He later acquired a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba, Ondo State, and in 2022 completed a Master’s degree in Criminology, Security and Legal Psychology at Lagos State University.
He joined the Nigeria Police Force as an Assistant Superintendent of Police on May 18, 1992, and trained at the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State.
