Man Calls Police to Check If He’s Listed Among Drug Barons in Kano

An unidentified man has reportedly contacted the Kano State Police Command to find out whether his name appeared on a confidential list of suspected drug dealers compiled through public tip-offs.
The unusual development was disclosed by the Command’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, in a post shared on his official Facebook page.
Expressing surprise at the call, Kiyawa wrote, “What boldness! Someone called me on the phone asking whether his name was among the drug dealers being reported.”
The spokesperson, however, did not confirm whether the caller’s name was actually on the list or whether he is currently under investigation for alleged involvement in drug trafficking.
The incident comes amid an intensified crackdown on illicit drug activities across Kano State. The police have adopted a community-driven intelligence approach, urging residents to confidentially submit the names of individuals suspected of selling or distributing illegal substances within their neighbourhoods.
Kiyawa had earlier encouraged members of the public to support the campaign, noting that the initiative is aimed at curbing drug abuse, trafficking and other related crimes in the state.
Police authorities say the strategy has already produced results, with several suspects arrested in different parts of Kano following credible information supplied by residents.
As of press time, the identity and motive of the caller remain unknown.
However, the development has further stirred public attention as security agencies intensify efforts to dismantle drug networks operating within the state.
