NiMet Predicts Wednesday Showers in Lagos, Ondo as North Battles Dust Haze
JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast light rainfall and thunderstorms in Lagos, Ondo and other southern states on Wednesday, even as northern parts of the country brace for widespread dust haze.
In its Daily Weather Outlook for Wednesday, March 4, 2026, issued on Tuesday, the agency said the northern region would experience hazy conditions throughout the day.
NiMet stated that “Moderate dust haze is expected across the Northern region, with thick dust haze anticipated over Katsina and Kano states.” The agency added that the condition would persist into the afternoon and evening.
For the North-Central region, slight dust haze is expected in the morning and is likely to continue later in the day.
In the southern states, NiMet projected a cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine in the morning hours. It said there are prospects of thunderstorms accompanied by light rain over parts of Ondo, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states early in the day.
The agency further noted that “Isolated thunderstorms with light rain are expected over parts of Lagos, Ogun, Edo, Oyo, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers states later in the day.”
NiMet warned that dust haze may reduce horizontal visibility and advised individuals with respiratory conditions to take necessary precautions.
It also cautioned that thunderstorms could be accompanied by gusty winds and urged residents in affected areas to remain vigilant.
Airline operators were encouraged to obtain airport-specific weather information from the agency for effective planning and safe flight operations.
