Tinubu Deploys 65 Ambassadors, Posts Omokri to Mexico

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the deployment of 65 Nigerian ambassadors and high commissioners to foreign missions across the world, assigning both career diplomats and political appointees to key diplomatic posts.

The list of postings, released on Friday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, comprises 31 non-career ambassadors and 34 career diplomats.

Among the prominent appointments, former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode was posted to Germany, while former presidential aide Reno Omokri will serve as Nigeria’s ambassador to Mexico.

Also on the list is former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mahmud Yakubu, who has been assigned to Qatar.

Others include former Abia State governor Okezie Ikpeazu, posted to Spain; former Chief of Army Staff and ex-Interior Minister Abdulrahman Dambazau, who will head Nigeria’s mission in China; and businessman-turned-senator Jimoh Ibrahim, appointed as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

Additional non-career envoys include former presidential aide Ita Enang to South Africa, former Deputy Governor of Lagos State Olufemi Pedro to Australia, and former Ekiti First Lady Angela Adebayo to Portugal.

According to the presidency, the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Nigeria) has already received diplomatic approval from the United Kingdom for Ambassador-designate Aminu Dalhatu to serve as Nigeria’s High Commissioner, while France has also granted agrément for Ayodele Oke as Nigeria’s envoy to Paris.

The ministry has also conveyed the nominations of the remaining envoys to their host countries and requested diplomatic consent in line with established international practice.

The postings followed the confirmation of the nominees by the Nigerian Senate on December 18, 2025, after they were screened by the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs.

The confirmation covered both career diplomats and political nominees selected by the president to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic representation abroad.

The new deployments are expected to fill several missions that had been without substantive ambassadors since the recall of Nigeria’s envoys from foreign posts in 2023.
