ICPC to Arraign El-Rufai Over Alleged Fraud, Money Laundering

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has concluded arrangements to arraign former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, over multiple allegations bordering on fraud, abuse of office, and money laundering.
In a statement issued on Monday by its spokesperson, John Okor Odey, the anti-graft agency said El-Rufai, alongside one Joel Adoga, would be docked before the Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna on Tuesday, March 24, 2026.
According to the commission, the case, marked FHC/KD/73/2026, includes charges relating to the conversion and possession of public property as well as money laundering.
The ICPC also disclosed that a separate case has been filed against El-Rufai and another individual, Amadu Sule, before a Kaduna State High Court.
The second suit contains allegations ranging from abuse of office and fraud to intent to commit fraud and conferring undue advantage.
“Both charges were filed on March 18, 2026,” the commission stated, adding that the date for arraignment in the state high court would be communicated in due course.
The agency confirmed that the former governor has been duly served, stressing its commitment to due process.
“The ICPC restates its commitment to adhering fully to due process and the rule of law at all times,” the statement added.
The development marks an escalation in legal proceedings involving the former governor, who has been under increasing scrutiny in recent weeks over allegations linked to his time in office.
In the past few weeks, discussions around El-Rufai have intensified following claims and counterclaims involving financial decisions and governance issues during his tenure in Kaduna State.
While his allies have defended his record in office, critics and civil society groups have continued to demand accountability and transparency over alleged financial dealings.
The ICPC, established in 2000 to tackle corruption in public service, has in recent years stepped up investigations and prosecutions involving high-profile public officials, as part of broader efforts to strengthen accountability and public trust.
The outcome of the case is expected to draw significant national attention, given El-Rufai’s political influence and role in Nigeria’s recent governance landscape.
