10 Security Personnel Killed as Gunmen Ambush Police, Soldiers in Kebbi

Armed gunmen have reportedly killed a police officer and nine soldiers in a deadly ambush in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The attack occurred in the Giro Masa community when security operatives, said to have been tracking criminal elements in the area, moved in following intelligence on the suspects’ location.

Sources disclosed that the operatives had received a tip-off from residents about the presence of gunmen at a construction company yard. However, while advancing towards the site, the team was ambushed by the attackers.

In the ensuing violence, the police officer and nine soldiers were reportedly killed, while two military trucks were set ablaze by the assailants.

The injured victims were rushed to the Federal Teaching Hospital in Birnin Kebbi for treatment.

Reacting to the incident, the state governor, Nasir Idris, described the attack as tragic and pledged government support for victims and their families.

“Everybody knows that government of Kebbi doesn’t play with security issues. We are here, we have seen things by ourselves, and we have directed the CMD of the hospital to ensure they do the needful for those that are receiving treatment,” he said.

The governor also assured that the families of the fallen security personnel would not be abandoned.

“For those that lost their lives, the government of Kebbi will do everything possible to assist the family. It is a great loss and a very sad situation, but we have to accept what has happened in good faith,” he added.

The attack has heightened concerns over security in the area, with residents calling for intensified operations to track down those responsible.
