Rainstorm Damages Bus Terminal built by Wike 9 months after inauguration

Damaged Kugbo Bus Terminal

A heavy rainstorm on Tuesday wreaked havoc on the recently inaugurated Kugbo Bus Terminal in Abuja, damaging parts of the structure and triggering a prolonged traffic gridlock along the ever-busy Nyanya–Keffi Expressway.

The downpour, which lasted for hours, tore through sections of the terminal’s roof, leaving debris strewn across the highway and obstructing vehicular movement on the major route linking the Federal Capital Territory with neighbouring Nasarawa State.

Commuters were left stranded as traffic built up rapidly, stretching for several kilometres. Motorists and residents were seen making frantic efforts to clear the debris in a bid to restore some level of movement along the corridor.

Eyewitnesses said a number of vehicles were caught in the chaos, with some reportedly affected by falling materials from the damaged structure.

The worst-hit area was around the Abuja Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre operated by the Directorate of Road Traffic Services, where the obstruction significantly slowed down traffic flow.

As of Tuesday evening, movement along the expressway remained sluggish, with authorities urging motorists to approach the area with caution.

The Kugbo Bus Terminal is one of the transport infrastructure projects delivered under the administration of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, less than a year ago.
