Atiku, Makinde, Obi, others Present as PDP, ADC Leaders Meet in Abuja

Key figures in Nigeria’s opposition bloc, including Atiku Abubakar, Seyi Makinde and Peter Obi, on Wednesday gathered in Abuja for a high-level meeting seen as part of efforts to reposition their parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The meeting, involving leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), comes amid growing political realignments and internal challenges facing opposition parties in the country.
Sources indicated that the talks are focused on strategies to strengthen party structures and navigate recent developments that have raised concerns about the survival and cohesion of the opposition.
The gathering followed closely on the heels of a protest staged earlier in Abuja by prominent figures within the ADC, who expressed dissatisfaction with decisions taken by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) concerning the faction led by David Mark.
Observers described the meeting as significant, noting that it marks one of the rare instances where major opposition figures are coming together in a coordinated effort to address shared political challenges and chart a common path forward.
Although allies of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, were not seen at the meeting, insiders suggested that discussions could include the possibility of broader alliances and collaborations aimed at mounting a stronger challenge to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The closed-door session is being held at the Abuja residence of David Mark, located within the Apo Legislative Quarters.
In recent days, opposition parties have intensified consultations as they seek to recalibrate their strategies and close ranks ahead of the next electoral cycle, with many viewing the Abuja meeting as a potential turning point.
