InterSociety’s Claim of 1,402 Christians Killed in 96 Days False, Says TDF
JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

The Democratic Front (TDF) has rejected claims by International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law that 1,402 Christians were killed across Nigeria within 96 days, describing the report as false and aimed at damaging the country’s image.
In a statement signed by its chairman, Mallam Danjuma Muhammad, and secretary, Chief Wale Adedayo, the group said the allegation was misleading and capable of fuelling tension if left unchecked.
According to the group, the claim lacked credible details and appeared to be part of a wider attempt to discredit Nigeria internationally.
“It is worrisome and irresponsible that such an inciting and weighty accusation was made without specific details on when, where and how the alleged killings occurred,” the statement read.
TDF said insecurity in Nigeria, though real, affects citizens across religious and ethnic lines, and should not be presented as targeting only one group.
“It is true that violence has been a challenge, but both Muslims and Christians have suffered. Portraying it as a one-sided attack with exaggerated figures is misleading,” it added.
The group also alleged that Intersociety had previously circulated similar claims that created negative perceptions about Nigeria abroad, warning that such reports could strain international relations.
It further called on the Federal Government under Bola Tinubu to investigate the matter and demand clarification from those behind the report.
“The government should not treat this with levity. Those who made the claim must explain how 1,402 Christians were allegedly killed within 96 days,” the group said.
TDF also urged authorities to take appropriate action if the claims are found to be unsubstantiated, warning that unchecked misinformation could worsen divisions in the country.
While acknowledging ongoing security challenges, the group maintained that unverified reports should not be allowed to undermine efforts to address them.
