The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has made a fresh push to attract two major opposition figures, Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, offering them a possible presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a post shared on X on Sunday, the party signalled what it described as a limited window for both politicians to join its platform before its primary deadline.

“All we need right now. Just all we need. 2 weeks to deadline,” the party wrote, alongside a photo showing Obi and Kwankwaso shaking hands with the caption: “Nigeria will be OK.”

The message has stirred fresh political conversations, coming amid growing realignments within opposition ranks ahead of the next election cycle.

In recent weeks, supporters of both politicians had launched a joint mobilisation effort known as the “OK Movement,” aimed at promoting the idea of a possible alliance between Obi and Kwankwaso for 2027.

The movement has since begun setting up structures across states and zones, raising speculation about possible coalition arrangements among opposition forces.

The political backdrop remains tense, particularly within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where leadership disputes have continued to generate uncertainty over its readiness for the next general elections. A related case is still before the Supreme Court, which recently reserved judgment on the leadership tussle involving factional claims within the party.

At the same time, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed May 30, 2026, as the deadline for political parties to submit membership registers and nominate candidates for the 2027 elections.

However, opposition parties, including the ADC, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction led by Kabiru Turaki, and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), have urged the commission to extend the timetable to the end of July, arguing that the current schedule could limit their internal preparations.

They insist that more time is needed to conclude party primaries and resolve internal disputes before the general election process fully begins.

With political negotiations intensifying, attention is now shifting to whether Obi and Kwankwaso will align with any platform or maintain their separate political paths as 2027 approaches.
