The Democratic Front (TDF) has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is still grappling with the fallout from the collapse of its opposition coalition, alleging that the party’s recent criticisms of President Bola Tinubu stem from political frustration rather than facts.

TDF said the opposition party has resorted to “spurious and unfounded allegations” against the President in a bid to remain politically relevant following what it described as the disintegration of its alliance structure.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Mallam Danjuma Muhammad, and Secretary, Chief Wale Adedayo, the group dismissed recent claims by the ADC leadership as “disgraceful and embarrassing.”

It was reacting to allegations credited to the ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, who had accused President Tinubu of allegedly sponsoring the creation of a group referred to as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to weaken the opposition.

TDF described the allegation as contradictory, noting that the same opposition figures had earlier accused the President of attempting to establish a one-party state.

“It is disgraceful and embarrassing for the ADC to now accuse President Bola Tinubu of creating the National Democratic Congress to destroy the opposition,” the group said.

According to TDF, the latest allegations reflect what it called “political confusion” within the opposition camp following the collapse of its coalition arrangement.

The group claimed that the opposition alliance, which reportedly involved key political figures, had already broken down due to internal disagreements and competing ambitions.

It argued that the ADC’s renewed attacks on the President were aimed at shifting attention away from its internal crises and leadership struggles.

“The ADC and its leadership should understand that Nigerians have had enough of their antics of pushing false narratives designed to attract sympathy,” the statement added.

TDF further maintained that the opposition party had failed to focus on strengthening its internal democratic structures ahead of future elections.

It accused the party of spending more time criticising the presidency than building internal cohesion or preparing for credible party primaries.

The group also linked the opposition’s challenges to what it described as the collapse of a broader political coalition involving former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s Peter Obi.

According to TDF, disagreements within the coalition and alleged dominance struggles among key political actors contributed to its disintegration.

It claimed that the fallout had left the ADC and its allies politically weakened and struggling to regain relevance in the national political space.

“The ADC’s frustration was not only triggered by the collapse of its coalition but also by the failure of its attempt to impose a consensus arrangement ahead of 2027,” the group said.

TDF insisted that President Tinubu had no involvement in the internal problems of the opposition, describing the allegations as a diversionary tactic.

It urged Nigerians to disregard what it termed “baseless accusations” and focus on what it described as the administration’s governance agenda.

The group concluded by characterising the opposition as being driven by personal ambition rather than national interest, accusing its leaders of prioritising political gains over democratic principles.
