Operatives of the Kebbi State Hisbah Board have arrested six persons, including a married woman, during a raid on a hotel in Birnin Kebbi over alleged immoral activities.
The suspects, made up of three men and three women, were apprehended during an operation carried out by officials of the board, an agency under the state Ministry of Religious Affairs.
Confirming the incident on Friday, the Director of Shariah at the board, Sirajo Kamba, said the operation followed intelligence reports received from members of the public.
According to him, the raid was conducted on May 14 at a hotel situated behind the Presidential Lodge area in Birnin Kebbi.
“Following reports from members of the public, Hisbah officials stormed the location and arrested the individuals involved,” he said.
Kamba disclosed that preliminary investigations revealed that one of the female suspects was married, describing the development as disturbing.
“Investigations are ongoing, and necessary action will be taken in accordance with the law and the board’s regulations,” he added.
The Hisbah official stressed the need for stronger moral values and greater parental supervision, urging families to pay closer attention to the activities and movements of their children.
He warned against behaviours capable of undermining societal values and public morality, insisting that the board would continue to enforce regulations aimed at promoting discipline and decency in the state.
The Kebbi Hisbah Board has in recent years intensified raids on locations suspected to be linked with activities considered contrary to Islamic moral codes and state regulations.
