The Dangote Group has commended the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for its intervention in the company’s transport operations, following a sharp reduction in crashes involving Dangote trucks across the country.
The commendation came during an appreciation visit by the company’s transport management team to the FRSC national headquarters in Abuja, where officials of the conglomerate credited the Corps’ Safety System Gap Analysis for the significant improvement recorded in fleet safety performance.
The assessment, conducted by the FRSC in September 2025 on Dangote Cement transport operations, had uncovered major operational deficiencies, including speed limiter violations, poor driver rest management, overloading and weak safety monitoring systems.
The review also linked many of the crashes to human-related factors and operational lapses within the transport chain.
However, comparative data released after the implementation of the FRSC recommendations showed a major decline in road crashes involving the company’s trucks.
According to the statistics, crash incidents dropped by 56 per cent, declining from 25 recorded cases in the first quarter of 2025 to 11 cases in the corresponding period of 2026.
Fatal crashes also reduced by 36 per cent, while the number of persons injured dropped by 52 per cent from 89 to 42.
Most significantly, deaths arising from the crashes fell by 60 per cent, from 35 fatalities recorded in 2025 to 14 in 2026.
Speaking during the visit, Head of Transport, Dangote Group, Mr. Murillo Silva, said the FRSC intervention had repositioned the company’s transport operations towards becoming a model for fleet management and road safety compliance in Africa.
According to him, both organisations share a common vision on improving safety within the transport sector.
“FRSC and Dangote Group share a common vision on what must be done to make the transport sector safer,” Silva said, noting that the partnership was already producing measurable results.
He commended the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, for what he described as professionalism and strategic leadership in addressing safety concerns within the company’s transport system.
Reacting to the development, the Corps Marshal described the outcome as proof that data-driven interventions, strategic partnerships and institutional collaboration remain essential to reducing road crashes and saving lives.
He commended the Dangote Group for accepting professional scrutiny and implementing critical reforms aimed at improving operational safety.
According to him, sustained compliance with the recommendations could position the company among the safest fleet operators on the African continent.
The FRSC boss also urged other transport companies and fleet operators to adopt proactive safety measures capable of reducing crashes and improving safety standards on Nigerian roads.
The Corps maintained that strengthening institutional partnerships with major transport operators remains vital to achieving safer highways and reducing preventable road traffic deaths nationwide.
