Aare (Hon.) Tolu Bankole, member of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has called on Nigerians to show greater compassion to the less privileged and vulnerable members of society as Muslims across the country celebrate Eid-el-Adha.
In a goodwill message issued on Wednesday, Bankole congratulated Muslim faithful in Nigeria and the diaspora, describing the Eid-el-Adha celebration as a powerful reminder of sacrifice, obedience and devotion to Almighty Allah.
He noted that the festival, widely known as the Festival of Sacrifice, commemorates the unwavering faith of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and the submission of his son, Prophet Ismail (AS), to the will of God.
According to him, the lessons of the celebration extend beyond religious observance, stressing that it is also a call to deepen humanity, compassion and social responsibility.
Bankole referenced the Holy Qur’an, citing the verse which states: “Neither their meat nor their blood reaches Allah, but it is piety from you that reaches Him,” adding that the essence of Eid lies in sincerity, righteousness and good conduct.
He said the message of Eid-el-Adha is especially relevant at a time when Nigerians are confronted with social and economic challenges, noting that citizens must embrace sacrifice, patience and tolerance in order to strengthen national unity.
The APC chieftain urged Nigerians of all religious, ethnic and political backgrounds to use the festive period to promote peace, mutual understanding and national cohesion.
“National progress depends on our ability to place the collective interest above personal considerations and work together in unity,” he said.
Bankole placed particular emphasis on the need for Nigerians to support the less privileged, widows, orphans and other vulnerable groups during the celebration.
He encouraged acts of charity and kindness, noting that such gestures reflect the true spirit of Eid and the teachings of Islam.
“This is a time to remember the less privileged among us. Widows, orphans and vulnerable persons deserve our care, attention and support, especially during festive periods like this,” he added.
He prayed that Almighty Allah would accept the sacrifices, prayers and supplications of the Muslim faithful, while granting Nigeria peace, stability and continued development.
Bankole also wished Muslims across the country and in the diaspora a peaceful and spiritually fulfilling Eid-el-Adha celebration.
