The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has called on the Federal Government to set a 90-day ultimatum for Nigeria’s security chiefs to end terrorism in the country or step down from office.
Adeboye made the suggestion in a video message shared on his official X handle on Tuesday, where he expressed deep concern over the worsening security situation across several parts of the country.
He said accountability must be enforced in the fight against terrorism, insisting that security chiefs should be measured strictly by results.
According to him, government must act decisively by not only directing security agencies to eliminate terrorists but also targeting those who sponsor them, regardless of their influence or status.
“You can only advise the commander-in-chief. You can’t command him… But I’ve tried. And God is my witness,” he said.
“What should we do now? I’m talking to you as my children. If I were asked to make suggestions, I would say quietly to our government, move fast. And tell our security chiefs, get rid of these terrorists within 90 days, or resign.”
Adeboye referenced past leadership approaches in Nigeria, noting that similar directives had been issued in previous administrations, though enforcement, according to him, was inconsistent.
He added that decisive action had previously led to faster responses from security operatives, even if outcomes were not sustained.
The cleric’s remarks have since generated widespread reactions on social and traditional media, coming at a time of renewed public concern over insecurity, including bandit attacks, kidnappings and terrorism-related violence in parts of the country.
Adeboye’s intervention adds to growing pressure on the Federal Government to intensify security operations and deliver measurable results in the fight against terrorism and violent crime across the country.
